Web Page Headers - One of the MOST Critical Web Page Element For Top Search Engine Rankings
One of the easiest ways to keep anyone from finding your site through a search engine is to skip the use of headers, put headers in image format, or omit keywords from the headers on your web pages.
Headers on web pages are the equivalent of article titles in newspapers or magazines.
They provide a quick summary of the contents of a web page or section of a web page. Proper use of headers helps to make your site easier for people to skim, easier to read, and can dramatically increase your search engine rankings.
Headers come in six sizes. In HTML, the following tags indicate the different size headers: <h1> <h2> <h3> <h4> <h5> and <h6>. The <h1> tag is typically the largest and <h6> is usually the smallest.
It is becoming easier and more practical to integrate headers in your web pages
At this point most web developers use headers on web pages, however, since gigantic text is sometimes undesirable aesthetically headers are placed in image format. Initially, there was no reliable method to alter the size of large header tags to make them more aesthetically pleasing. Graphics were easily created, positioned and could create a much more aesthetically pleasing web page. With the adoption of style sheets (commonly known as Cascading Style Sheets or CSS), headers are much more easily formatted.
You'll need to put specific keywords in your headers to increase your rankings
If you don't currently have headers on your web pages or you have headers in image format, you should consider putting pain HTML text headers on your web pages if at all possible. Your rankings will increase and you'll get more traffic - if and only if you put keywords in them. Typical headers on a commerce site would include the name of the product on individual product pages. Names of product categories would appear on less specific, higher level categories. If the default header size for an <h1> or <h2> is to large to fit in with your web page design, use style sheets to adjust the size and if necessary, the font.
Inserting header tags into your web pages in such a way that your search engine rankings will increase is easy. Put the text of the header in between an opening and closing header tag.
Here's what the code looks like
